about
A true artist is also a good story-teller. This is a story about the struggles of a Bosnian immigrant, revealed through rhymes.
lyrics
I got nothing to live for and nothin' to die for.
Lookin' through the daily news,
Abusin' dudes who had no shoes
Pain and suffering while people were hustling in Darfur
But compare that to my homeland, I was losin and lost love, again,
So damn hardcore.
They start war,
Why do I even work hard for?
When I ran away to the land of braves, my heart tore
I used to live in the lost core of my nation Bosnia,
Just like Somalia, the way that I lived was all poor
Poverty was my father, just like that Star Wars
Millions died around me, my parents, my family swept away like mopped floors.
My mother's dying wish was for this body to be a doctor
But what for?
To help cure all the people, stuck in this lethal decietful, war monster
Whether minaret or church steeple the preachers were evil,
slayed sleepin creatures, and even, cops were
I lost everyone I knew and loved,
my aunt, my uncles, older sis, and litle bruh,
My cuz', and my father.
(Chorus)
Gotta make my dreams come true
But I just don't know what Ima do
Everytime I try to reach out
The ice puts me back to sleep
And I try
But the ice
Is too deep for me to wake
Gotta get up do whatever it takes
When I came to the USA, to get myself a new blessed way
Of livin'
Stayed away from linen
In Hotels I lived in
I was allergic
But they were allergic to me
Cuz I went to Friday sermons
They were cursin, sayin I wasn't worth it, Please
I needed that job, do you agree
That the principles of this nation tell us that all men are free?
But subliminal bigotry is the substance that yall breathe!
"Sir will you just leave!?
Get out my office 'fore I call police.
This nation, United States, this country
Isn't for little terrorist scum, you see.
You're a Muslim, little hoodlum, just go find a job in Brooklyn!"
I already told yall people I was lookin.
But when he said those words, I was so shook then.
I took ten, ways tryna make a livin,
My attempts, were waste, I was never sittin'
With business-men, racism always risen
Me dippin to a new low
And they cared only for the crude oil
I was not ready to lose though
(Chorus)
Gotta make my dreams come true
But I just don't know what Ima do
Everytime I try to reach out
The ice puts me back to sleep
And I try
But the ice
Is too deep for me to wake
Gotta get up do whatever it takes
And as I sat there feeling lonely
All alone without a job,
Had no homies, no one knows me
So I called out to my God
Oh my God!
Allow me to walk
The straight path walked upon a lot
By all your Prophets and Saints
And I saught this, I ain't gon'
Try to be another hater, I painted
My life with the sad colours of the shade blue
But later on, I had someone I could really relate to,
My saviour
And together, we as Muslim brothers we set up a Mosque
And I knew this was all happening 'cuz I called out to my God
And the haters wanna bring me down, but I would never drop
And this was just the starting point, boy I would never stop
So remember that stumbling isn't falling
And if you hustlin' keep on crawlin'
Cuz one day you gon' make it through
My statement's true
Keep that hope burnin' inside of you
It's vital dude, a survival tool
Inspirin' you to fly out soon
We gon' make it through the storm
Ice may be all around us, but our hearts are filled with warmth
(Chorus)
Gotta make my dreams come true
But I just don't know what Ima do
Everytime I try to reach out
The ice puts me back to sleep
And I try
But the ice
Is too deep for me to wake
Gotta get up do whatever it takes
